Zimbabwe cricketer, Ryan Burl, approached Twitter on Sunday as he shared an image of his tattered shoes, tagging some famous brands to aid him. In his tweet, Burl said that they had to glue their shoes after every series as there have been no sponsors to support them.
Any chance we can get a sponsor so we don’t have to glue our shoes back after every series
It shows the lack of opportunities and accessories Zimbabwe cricketers have despite renowned as an International Team by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The fans were quick to respond and show solidarity with Zimbabwe Cricket as Burl’s tweet went viral. Many criticized ‘The Big Three’ for colonizing the beautiful game of cricket. While some urged India, Australia, and England not to postpone their tours of Zimbabwe. Meanwhile, eyebrows were also raised over the distribution of financial resources among smaller nations.
Ryan Burl writes a heartfelt note, PUMA comes to the rescue
Finally, some hope emerged for Ryan Burl as Puma Cricket responded to his tweet and assured him their full support. They tweeted,
” Time to put the glue away, I got you covered
The 27-year-old took to Twitter to confirm the news.
“I am so proud to announce that I’ll be joining the @pumacricket team. This is all due to the help and support from the fans over the last 24 hours. I couldn’t be more grateful to you all. Thanks so much, @PUMA,”
The left-handed Zimbabwean batsman played in recent Pakistan’s Tour of Zimbabwe where Babar led side swept the test series while won the T201 series by 2-1, thanks to the miraculous victory of Zimbabwe in the 2nd T201 in which Pakistan were bowled out for 99 while chasing 116 run target. Ryan Burl took 2 wickets in the T201 series having best figures of 2 for 21 and managed to score 17 runs.
According to reliable sources, seeing the lack of opportunities in Zimbabwe Cricket amidst being a renowned international team, puma cricket has offered sponsors to the men in red’s army. This will certainly boost the team’s chances of battling against the worsening financial situation. This together with tours of top-notch sides in the neat future like India, Australia and England would certainly boost the African team’s reputation as an international team.
