Aaqib Javed has been the Head Coach of Lahore Qalandars since the 2018 season of PSL. Lahore Qalandars replaced Paddy Upton after their team failed to achieve anything significant in the initial two seasons of PSL. However they didn’t know the fact that their team would go from bad to worse. Although under the coaching of Aaqib Javed, Qalandars did break the jinx of not qualifying for the playoffs stages, but they still have a horrible record in PSL. Amongst the six teams in PSL, Lahore remains the only team who hasn’t won the event yet.

Many believe that Aaqib Javed is one of the prime reasons behind Lahore’s failure in Pakistan Super League. However the owners and stakeholders of Lahore Qalandars think otherwise. In a recent media interaction, the CEO of Lahore Qalandars, Mr. Atif Rana revealed that who suggested the name of Aaqib Javed to them for the Head Coach role of Lahore Qalandars. Atif revealed that it was Pakistan’s World Cup Winning captain, and the current Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr Imran Khan who suggested the name of Aaqib Javed. ‘I asked Imran Khan regarding who should be the Head Coach of Lahore Qalandars for PSL, and the first name Imran took was of Aaqib Javed”, Atif Rana stated.

Apart from Aaqib Javed, Imran Khan also suggested the name of Mudassar Nazar. However, in the inaugural edition of Pakistan Super League, both Mudassar and Aaqib were engaged and they didn’t join Lahore Qalandars. Couple of years later, Aaqib joined as the Head Coach but things remained same for Lahore Qalandars. The Stakeholders of Lahore Qalandars still have faith in Aaqib Javed and they are likely to continue with him in PSL 7 as well.
