From once being an epitome of trolls and constant criticism to now emerging as favorites to lift the glamorous trophy. What has changed for Qalandars over these years? The answer might surprise many but the appointment of Sohail Akhtar as captain has worked out for Qalandars.

The 35-year old batsman got the responsibility of leading the franchise before PSL 5 which left many people bamboozled as the squad had seniors like Mohammad Hafeez, Salman butt, and Fakhar Zaman, to lead the side. But the Haripur-born had impressed the management after leading the side that won the 2018 Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy.

However, Sohail Akhtar amazed everyone with his leadership qualities in PSL V as Lahore Qalandars evolved into a challenging side and finished as runners-up. Meanwhile, they have maintained their excellent run by winning five of their six games in PSL 6 and hence becoming the table toppers.

To many, it would come as a surprise but Sohail has been the most successful captain in the history of PSL. Winning 12 out of 19 matches and having a win percentage of 63.15 %, leaving behind the likes of some heavyweights like Misbah-ul-Haq and Darren Sammy.

Sohail Akhtar has shown that even a low profile player can lead a franchise boasting of some international stars as at the end of the day it is the game sense that wins matches. The PSL 6 provides Lahore the best opportunity to claim the title given that the form their players are in and how good they are being led.
