Pakistan Cricket Team’s bowling coach, Waqar Younis says that Pakistan’s upcoming series versus Zimbabwe is the best opportunity to rest top bowlers.

Recently, there has been a lot of discussions about resting Shaheen Shah Afridi as he has continually been performing restlessly.

Shaheen has been a crucial part of the team’s bowling line-up grabbing important wickets for the team. The bowling circle heavily relies on a few of the bowlers and Shaheen is one of them.

Waqar Younis talks about resting some bowlers

“We are considering all options, knowing well that our bowlers are coming out of long break because of PSL’s untimely postponement. We know well how much cricket top bowlers need. We also want to test our bench strength. Zimbabwe series would provide us that opportunity.”

After all the criticism, he says he has an idea of the workload bowlers are going through. He added that South Africa’s pitches, being batting friendly, were not easy to bowl.

As the World Cup 2021 is near, he believes T20 is about run-scoring, hence, we will be choosing the best combination having multiple options available.

“Our effort is to prepare the best combination for the coming World Cup. A few options we have with us and are trying to get a clear picture well in time,” he said.

“T20 cricket requires such luxury where bowlers most of the time struggle. Yet we managed them well in the last T20. If South Africa scored over 200, we chased down the total easily.”

He believes that there are a few areas of weaknesses and the management will be looking to improve. It is speculated that Shaheen, Haris, Faheem, and Hasan might be rested for Pak vs Zim series.

“There is always room for improvement. We are working on some of the weaknesses we have seen. Shaheen, Haris, Faheem, and Hasan all know well what is required of them.”
