The Return of T20 Specialist, Rumman Raees Khan:
A young left arm pacer coming from Pakistan was not a new thing in Pakistan Cricket. Rumman Raees Khan came into limelight after 2016 PSL and represented Pakistan in T20I Cricket in the same year. In PSL’s next edition, Rumman picked 12 wickets and caught everyone’s attention. He was a part of the Champions Trophy winning squad of Pakistan. Unlike the other Pacers of Pakistan, Rumman Raees was more focused on his line and length and variations rather than just pace.
He was the hottest thing in limited overs cricket. He knew when to pitch the ball up, when to reduce the pace and when to bowl the yorker. However, things did change for the talented young man, Rumman Raees in 2018. Rumman sustained knee injury in earlier years as well, but in 2018, it was just way too much for him. The injury cost him years of his playing career. During the recent most edition of Pakistan Super League, Rumman Raees was announced as bowling consultant by the most successful franchise of PSL, Islamabad United. It was a good thing to see Rumman Raees back in cricket, but it was sad in a way that Rumman had taken roles in management and it was thought that his playing days are finished. His appointment as a bowling consultant received mixed reactions from fans. Some were emotional that such a talented bowler is no longer playing the game, however some were happy that many more young bowlers can learn the skills from Rumman.
In the 2021 domestic season of Pakistan Cricket, Rumman Raees was named in Sindh’s first XI and this was the first glimmer of hope for the return of the pacer. Rumman Raees featured in the National T20 Cup 2021 and as soon as he bowled his first over, it was seen that he has not missed a step. The same tight line and lengths and variations were seen in his bowling and it was good to see this talented bowler didn’t give up on his playing career. At the moment Rumman has featured in 6 games, picked 8 wickets at an average of just 15 and an economy rate of just 7. He is the second best bowler for the Sindh side. Not only with the ball, Rumman has been an excellent finisher for Sindh as well. He has a strike rate of 176 with the bat and he is surely a vital asset in the lower order of Sindh. It’s good to see the amount of hard work this man has put to resume his playing career. He recently featured in his 100th T20 Game, and if all goes well, the fans wish that he plays more and more and represent Pakistan once again.
