Match 27 – Tayyab Tahir inspires Southern Punjab to stun KP
The already eliminated Southern Punjab locked horns with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today in match 27 of the National T20 Cup 2021. Southern Punjab had to play for their pride. KP won the toss and decided to bowl first. Southern Punjab added some more new faces in their side. The opening 5 overs were pretty even for both sides. The opening stand was of 39 runs before Sharoon Siraj got out to Imran Khan Sr. Sharoon scored 18(13). Inform Tayyab Tahir continued to smash some runs in the tournament while he was supported by Agha Salman.
The stand between Tayyab Tahir and Agha Salman was of 56 runs but Agha Salman struggled for the major part of his innings, he got out after scoring 16(20). Tayyab Tahir stayed at the wicket and completed yet another half century in this event. After the dismissal of Agha Salman, Azam Khan played a flourish innings of 25(13) to increase the run rate of Southern Punjab. Azam Khan was then dismissed by Arshad Iqbal. Tayyab Tahir then continued to get the runs with Moin Uddin but soon Imran Khan Sr took Tayyab’s wicket. Tayyab Tahir scored 78(48). With 147/4 in the seventeenth over, Southern Punjab had the platform set to go for a big score. Skipper Aamer Yamin arrived at the crease and the smashed the ball as hard as he could do. Aamer’s 24(13) allowed Southern Punjab to post 193/5 on board. Imran Khan Sr and Niaz Khan managed 2 wickets each.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had a horrible start to their chase. Both openers failed to deliver and wasted many deliveries. With 26/2 in the sixth over, KP were struggling badly, courtesy of some good bowling by Ali Majid and Mohammad Ilyas. Soon after the openers, inform Sahibzada Farhan also failed today and situation began to get worse for KP. Kamran Ghulam, the new addition from KP’s Second XI side took the responsibility of rescuing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from disaster. Kamran Ghulam got the support of Nabi Gul. Kamran Ghulam and Nabi Gul piled up 77 runs together to give KP a chance in the game. This partnership was broken when Kamran Ghulam got out for 46 by Aamer Yamin. Nabi Gul completed his fifty but soon after that, he got out for 54. Iftikhar Ahmed tried to somehow take KP out of trouble but the equation was just way too much for him and he had no support from the other end. Iftikhar Ahmed remained not out on 33(21)* as KP fell short by 11 runs. It was a moral win for Southern Punjab. Tayyab Tahir was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant batting.
Match 28 – Wahab Riaz knocks out Balochistan from the race of semi finals
Balochistan faced the challenge of Central Punjab in the second game of the day. Both sides needed a win to increase their chances for the Semi finals of the National T20 Cup. Central Punjab won the toss and decided to bowl first. Balochistan didn’t begin well as they kept on losing wickets consistently. Abdul Wahid Bangalzai was the first to be dismissed when he was bowled by Sameen Gul for just 1. Skipper Imam-ul-Haq was the next one to be dismissed after taking 8 balls for just his 6 runs. This was Sameen Gul’s second wicket. Abdullah Shafique kept on holding one end but soon after Imam and Wahid, Haris Sohail also got out after scoring 8(14). Sohail Akhtar was the next one to be dismissed and he managed just 9 runs. At this point Balochistan were 52/4 by the end of tenth over and Abdullah Shafique was their lone warrior. The 24 run stand between Abdullah and Hidayatullah gave some hope but Hidayatullah also got out cheaply. With 76/5 Balochistan were in all sorts of trouble.
Abdullah Shafique then finally got some support by Amad Butt and both put a stand of 46 runs. Abdullah Shafique completed his half century in the process. After scoring 60(42) Abdullah Shafique was dismissed by young Muhammad Faizan. Amad Butt completed the onslaught with Umaid Asif. The stand between Umaid and Amad was of 40 runs which allowed Balochistan to post a total of 162. Amad Butt remained unbeaten on 43(27)*.
Central Punjab had a shaky start as their inform opener Ahmed Shahzad failed to deliver today. Ahmed was bowled by Junaid Khan after scoring just 5 of 11 balls. Meanwhile Mohammad Akhlaq and Hussain Talat continued their good form in the tournament. Akhlaq kept on attacking while Hussain Talat was rotating the strike. The stand between these two inform batsmen was of 48 runs which was laying a good foundation for the chase. Akhlaq got a bit carried away with the attack and lost his wicket to Kashif Bhatti while charging. In the very next over, the golden arm of Balochistan, Haris Sohail bowled Hussain Talat for 21 runs. Losing 2 quick wickets put pressure on Central Punjab. Irfan Niazi and Saif Badar spent sometime at the middle but didn’t score much and both got out for single digit scores. Faheem Ashraf arrived at the crease and accelerated the innings. Faheem smashed two sixes and a four right at the start of his innings to Haris Sohail. Faheem got the support of Muhammad Faizan at the other end.

Amad Butt was having one of the finest days today as he dismissed Faheem Ashraf to give Balochistan the edge. Faheem was dismissed for 27(15). Soon after Faheem, Umaid Asif dismissed Muhammad Faizan and once again Balochistan had the upper hand in the game. It was all on skipper Wahab Riaz and Qasim Akram to chase now. Umaid nearly got Qasim Akram in the same over he dismissed Muhammad Faizan, but Kashif Bhatti dropped one of the easiest catches. Wahab Riaz smashed a six in the same over. This eventful 17th over gave away 9 runs. Amad Butt tried to come back after that six but Wahab smashed 3 more sixes to end the chase once in for all in this over. 4 sixes in the over, ruined the day for Amad Butt at this point. With 27 runs of this over, Central Punjab needed just 2 runs in the final 2 overs. Wahab Riaz finished the chase with ease and scored 28(9)* to allow Central Punjab qualify for the Semi finals. This win by Central Punjab ended the hopes of Balochistan to qualify for semi finals as they were knocked out.
