Shan Masood Called up into the Test Squad After a fantastic County Championship and Vitality blast Season:
The left handed opener, Shan Masood, has been called-up to the Pakistan squad for the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka. Masood last played a test match for Pakistan in January 2021 against Newzealand and was recalled recently into the side for the home test series against Australia but did not play any of those tests.
Shan has had a fantastic debut county season with Derbyshire as he accummulated 991 runs in 11 LV= Insurance County Championship innings including 2 double centuries at an average of 90.09 and is currently the leading run scorer by a long margin in Division 2.
After his terrific performances in the County Championship, Shan waa announced as the captain for the Derbyshire Falcons for the Vitality blast and he did not disappoint as he continued his terrific performances and scored 423 runs in the Vitality Blast so far this season and has made crucial contributions as his side won six consecutive matches and is now placed second on the points table with almost a confirmed spot for the Quarter Final stages.
His fine form at Derbyshire had made it impossible for the selectors to ignore him as he was rewarded for his excellent form with a place in an 18-man squad of Pakistan announced on Wednesday for the two-Test trip to Srilanka. Masood last played a test match for his country in January 2021 against Newzealand and is waiting for his chance in the side again since then despite giving consistent performances.
The squad members are scheduled to meet for a training camp in Rawalpindi on June 25, before leaving for Sri Lanka on July 6. Masood is expected to remain with Derbyshire for the Vitality Blast group stages before going off to join the test squad back home.
Shan is set to miss four weeks of Derbyshire’s season and will then return to Derbyshire upon the conclusion of the series, ahead of the Royal London Cup and final three LV= County Championship fixtures. It is still unclear if the side will be picking a short-term replacement for Shan Masood.
