The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has recently announced that the remaining matches of HBL PSL 6 will be taking place in June. Notably, it is the same window when the Asia Cup is scheduled to take place.
Asia Cup 2020 was all set to be organized in August 2020 but the pandemic situation postponed it till 2021. Despite the Coronavirus threats, many cricketing events were interrupted.
Later, when things got started backing to the normal, the PCB resumed PSL 2021 in a full fledge. After as many as seven COVID positive members were reported, the board was left with no option but to turn the even down.
As of now, with new plans to recommence the league in June, the Pakistani players will be busy in PSL. According to a PCB official, Ehsan Mani stated that there are lesser chances of Pakistan participating in the event.
The source further added that the ACC event might be canceled due to national commitments of the Asian Teams. The PSL franchises wanted PSL 6 to resume by April but Pakistan is obliged to tour South Africa this April.
Notably, the SA team visited Pakistan in early 2021 hence, the men in green are expected to give a return tour. Mani told franchises that he will not turn down CSA as PCB maintains good relations with the Proteas Board.
PSL or Asia Cup in June? Pakistan’s participation in confusion
Mani made it clear that there was little possibility of the tournament being held this year and it would be moved to 2023 due to the commitments of the participating teams,
But the PCB chairman made it clear they could not do this as they had good relations with CSA which had supported Pakistan cricket by sending its full test team to Pakistan in February.
