The vice-captain of the red-ball format, Mohammad Rizwan will lead the Pakistan Cricket Team in the PakvsNZ 1st test match as the skipper Babar Azam rules out of the 17-member squad.
Following captain Babar’s injury, he is neither part of the T20I series. Consequently, the limited-over series, that Pakistan have already lost by 0-2 with one game remaining, is being led by Shadab Khan.
As of now, Azam has been ruled out of the first test squad along with the opener Imam ul Haq as both of them are subject to their respective thumb injuries.
Their injuries came up during the training sessions last week in Queenstown giving back-to-back blows to the Men in Green.
However, 24-year-old uncapped Imran Butt has been added to the Test squad. Haris Sohail’s inclusion can be considered good news. Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah, Shan Masood, Sohail Khan, and Yasir Shah have retained their places in the team.

“Although it will be nearly two weeks to Babar’s injury when the first Test starts, it will be hard on him and the team to play him without any net sessions,” head coach Misbah said in a statement on Monday.
“I remain confident and optimistic that other players will rise to the occasion in Mount Maunganui and use the opportunity to rise to the occasion and put the disappointment of the T20I series behind them,” Misbah added being disappointed about the T20I series lost
