Pakistan Creates World Record with Their Semi Final Qualification in World T20 2021:

The Pakistan Cricket Team on Tuesday, became the 1st side to officially qualify for the Semi Finals of ICC World T20 2021. Pakistan defeated Namibia to confirm their place in the Semi Finals. They earlier defeated India, New Zealand and Afghanistan in the event. So far, England from Group A and Pakistan from Group B are the only two teams in the event who are yet to be defeated. The two former champions have been playing Cricket of the Highest Calibre to create problems for other teams. Pakistan ran over Namibia in their 4th group match on Tuesday by 45 runs and punched their ticket to Semi Finals. This will be Pakistan’s 5th Semi Final appearance in 7 editions of World T20. Pakistan missed out on the Semi Finals in 2014 and 2016.

With qualifying for the 5th time for Semi Finals of ICC World T20, Pakistan will become the team with most Semi Final appearances in the history of the event. Pakistan is also the first team to play 2 finals of the ICC World T20. They were the runners up in the inaugural edition of World T20 while they were the champions in the next year. Pakistan qualified for every semi final of World T20 till 2012 after that, they took early exits in the next couple of events. Overall Pakistan have qualified for the Semi Finals 5 times now, which is a World Record. Following Pakistan are West Indies and Sri Lanka with 4 semi final appearances each. However both West Indies and Sri Lanka have no chance of qualifying for the Semi Finals in 2021 edition of the World T20.

Pakistan also has a great opportunity to become the first Asian side with 2 World T20 Trophies. T20I is the format that Pakistan have dominated the most in their Cricketing history. Its been 12 years since Pakistan last won a World T20 trophy and this time, its probably their best shot at the title. Pakistan will likely face South Africa or Australia in the Semi Final of the event. Pakistan have one more group match left, against Scotland in which they can test their bench strength or stick with the same unit to carry momentum heading into the Semi Finals.
