Eden Park Auckland, New Zealand beat Pakistan by 5 Wickets with 7 Balls left in the first Match of T20 Series. After winning the Toss and choosing to Bat first Pakistan had worst possible start losing 4 Wickets inside the Powerplay.
At one stage it looked like Pakistan will be bundled out under 100 but courtesy to Pakistan Skipper Shadab Khan who played real Captain innings and bailed Pakistan out of trouble scoring 42 runs of 32 Deliveries with Two 4s and 3 Sixes and gave Pakistan bowlers a good chance to bowl at. He was well supported by Khushdil Shah, Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf with Faheem Ashraf paying a quick cameo of 31 of just 18 with Two 4s and 3 Sixes. Pakistan posted a 153/9 in 20 Overs a below par total but still Pakistan managed to drag it to the penultimate delivery of the second last over of the game.
New Zealand were pretty disciplined in their bowling apart from last 5 Overs where Pakistan scored 54 runs. Debutant Duffy had a dream outing taking 4 Wickets for 33 in his 4 Overs.
Chasing the total, the Kiwi started poorly as Guptil and Conway went to pavilion early. It was then the due of Seifert and Phillips who steadied the innings. After getting the start Phillips fell but Seifert continued and along with Chapman added 45 and kept the Kiwis in the game. Seifert got to his half ton but failed finish the game but Jimmy Neesham and Captain Santner stayed till the and and took the game home.
Pakistan started well with the ball but one would feel they were few runs short. Had it been 170 then the result might be different. However Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf were superb with the ball as they took 2 amd 3 wickets respectively in their combined 8 overs but couldn’t get the support from other bowlers and in the end, it was an easy win for the Black Caps.
Debutant Jacob Duffy was the man of the Match for his brilliant performance with the ball claiming 4 wickets for 33 in 4 Overs.
Kiwis go 1-0 in the 3-match series amd surely Pakistan will look to bounce back strongly in the next game. The second game will be played on Sunday, 20th December 2020 at Hamilton and let us see who will come out on top. Will Pakistan make a strong comeback or will Kiwi rap up the series by winning the second T20 too?
