Match 9 – Sindh Bamboozled Balochistan:
The National T20 Cup 2021 resumed today after a 2 day break. Match 9 began with table toppers Sindh taking on Balochistan. Sindh decided to bat first after winning the toss and proved their decision right.
After a 52 run opening stand, the platform was set for Sindh and they never looked back. Both Shan Masood and Sharjeel Khan scored 30+ and laid a perfect foundation for Sindh to cash in. Khurram Manzoor fell cheaply for just 10, but a classy innings of 32 runs by Saud Shakeel kept things moving. Sarfaraz Ahmed played an explosive knock of 41(26) while Anwar Ali does what he is always known for. Anwar scored 22 off just 13 deliveries to power Sindh to 175 in their 20 overs. Khurram Shahzad, Umaid Asif and Kashif Bhatti managed a wicket each.
Balochistan were once again off to a slow start and they never seemed to recover from that. Skipper Imam-ul-Haq yet again failed to deliver with the bat. Only 3 batsmen in the Balochistan side got into the double figures. Only one batsman was able to score 20+ as Balochistan were bundled out for 98. Zahid Mahmood ripped through the top order while Shahnawaz Dahani wiped out the tail. Dahani picked 4 while Zahid managed 3 wickets.
Match 10 – Losing Streak Continues for Southern Punjab
Northern decided to bowl first today after winning the toss against Southern Punjab. However Southern Punjab made sure that Northern regret their decision for sure.
The opening pair was changed today. Skipper Sohaib Maqsood decided to open himself and made the most out of this opportunity. Despite of the first wicket falling in the very first over, Sohaib remained calm and put up a partnership of 74 runs with Agha Salman. Imad Wasim did break the partnership but Sohaib kept the charge on. Sohaib Maqsood scored 75 before he was dismissed by Musa Khan. Aamer Yamin provided a good finish with 23(9) as Southern Punjab ended with 175 on the board.
Northern began the chase nicely, but they lost Rohail Nazir in the fourth over. Northern shuffled their batting order today and it did prove good for them. After Rohail Nazir, Haider Ali and Nasir Nawaz continued the charge but soon Nasir Nawaz also departed after scoring 25. In at 4 was Imad Wasim today for Northern, he looked good but got out after scoring only 14. Haider Ali and Mohammad Nawaz kept the scorecard ticking and kept the hopes of Northern fans alive.
Haider Ali and Nawaz put up a partnership of 37 runs to take Northern closed to the target. Hassan Khan broke the partnership and got the much important wicket of Haider Ali who scored 40(27). Mohammad Nawaz just continued to smash the bowlers all across the ground, although he was dropped once by Mohammad Ilyas and Nawaz utilised that opportunity fully. The 67 run partnership between Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz proved to be match winning for Northern. 32 runs were needed in the final 3 overs when Shadab Khan Smashed 23 runs to Naseem Shah in the 18th over that included 3 gigantic sixes. With only 9 needed in the final 2 overs, Shadab Khan threw his wicket away to Hassan Khan but the game had slipped from Southern Punjab’s grip.
Mohammad Nawaz completed his half century and finished the game as well. With just 4 needed in the final over by Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz smashed a four of the no ball and the game ended with Southern Punjab facing their 4th straight defeat.
