Multan Sultans became the first team to win nine matches in the league stages of a single PSL season:
Multan Sultans enlisted their 9th win in this year’s Pakistan Super League after they crushed Islamabad United by six wickets with Mohammad Rizwan playing a responsible 51-run knock in the one-sided match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
While defending the small target, Islamabad United tried their level best as they applied early pressure. Left-arm spinner Liam Dawson dismissed three top batters with Multan’s score still 18.
He took the wickets of Shan Masood, Khushdil Shah, and Amir Azmat in a splendid spell of 3-16 out in four overs.
Despite the early tension, Rizwan kept on playing sensibly and as indicated by the situation as he rotated the strike by taking the singles and doubles.
With David Willey, he produced an excellent 68-run partnership to take his team to the win in 17.2 overs.
Willey likewise played well as he scored 28 runs off 32 balls.
Apart from Liam Dawson, leggie Zahid Mahmood was also great with figure 1-20 out in four overs.
Multan Sultans restricted Islamabad United to a measly 105-runtotal for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs wickets with spinners Asif Afridi and Imran Tahir getting two wickets each in their wonderful four-over spell.
After choosing to bat first, Islamabad United had an unfortunate beginning as they lost the wicket of opener Muhammad Huraira with only nine runs on the board.
The Multan Sultans bowlers were on the money with both the spinners and pacers bowling tight and applying tension on the United batters with tight lines and lengths.
Dawson scored 22 runs while all the batsmen, including Azam Khan, Asif Ali, and Danish Aziz, wretchedly fizzled as half of United’s batting line-up was sent back with only 64 runs the board.
Pace bowler Muhammad Musa played a 26-run cameo to take United to 105, as all the bowlers for Multan contributed splendidly.
Imran Tahir was indeed amazing with sensational figures of 2-8 in his four overs.
Brief Scores:
Islamabad United 105/7 in 20 overs (Muhammad Musa 26*; Imran Tahir 2-8, Asif Afridi 2-21) lost to Multan Sultans 111/4 in 17.2 overs (Mohammad Rizwan 51*, David Willey 28*; Liam Dawson 3-16) by 6 wickets.
