The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ehsan Mani, once uttered about the impossibilities of the Asia Cup 2021. The man observed that the event will not be possible at any cost amidst the busy schedule of the Asian Cricket Teams. Mani gave a green signal to recommence the remaining matches of the HBL PSL 2021 amidst no clear signs of the Asia Cup getting organized in June.
As of now, the PSL 2021 is likely to begin by 1st June if all of the PCB’s queries get cleared by the UAE’s end till Thursday. Notably, the two biggest cricketing events, the IPL and the PSL got terminated in the mid-way amidst the surge of the COVID in respective countries. Consequently, Pakistan and India, both look for a window later this year that might collide with Asia Cup’s window, hence, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) will have no option but to call off the event.
Not only this but the Asian countries who are participants of the Asia Cup are looking to reschedule the series this year that got postponed last year due to the pandemic. Also, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are busy planning the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2021) and Lanka Premier League (BPL 2021) somewhere near the decided window of the ACC event. This truly makes the Asia Cup discarded from the year 2021.
Ehsan Mani’s prediction about Asia Cup 2021 comes true
Along with it, the Indian Cricket Team will be locking the horns with New Zealand to combat the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Hence, the possibilities of the Asia Cup 2021 are almost diminished. This makes Mani’s prediction comes true who confidently elected the remaining matches of PSL 6 knowing the Asia Cup won’t proceed ahead.
One of the officials of the PCB added,
Mani made it clear that there was little possibility of the tournament being held this year and it would be moved to 2023 due to the commitments of the participating teams,
As of now, the reliable sources have hinted at Asia Cup 2021 (originally, the 2021 version) moving to 2023. Notably, it was set to be hosted in Pakistan but the authorities preferred Sri Lanka as an alternative venue amidst the BCCI denial of voyaging Pakistan.
Now, the 2022 version is all set to be organized in the men in green’s country and the fans will be witnessing the event in two consecutive years. It is pertinent to mention here that the tournament was last held in 2018. It is played after every two years.
