Can the yellow storm strike in Abu Dhabi?

The shelved Pakistan Super League 6 saw Peshawar Zalmi claiming the second spot on the points table. Zalmi looked ravenous in the Karachi leg, bagging three wins after five matches.

The yellow army was involved in some nail-biting finishes. The former champions most incredible win came against their arch-rivals Quetta Gladiators. The target of 199 for the yellow army looked like an uphill task at one stage. But Peshawar had the last laugh courtesy of Sherfane Rutherford and Wahab Riaz’s onslaught at the end. They suffered a heartbreaking defeat against Karachi Kings when a target of 189 runs couldn’t help Zalmi to secure their fourth win and lost the match after Mohammad Nabi’s rapid innings.

The yellow storm will be led by Pakistan’s experienced pacer Wahab Riaz. The veteran who has taken the highest number of wickets in PSL’s history will be the most important player in the Abu Dhabi leg.

The cool and composed Shoaib Malik will be the mainstay in the middle order. However, he hasn’t fired up till now, managing to score 101 runs in 5 games. Moreover, Kamran Akmal is another batsman in Zalmi who has disappointed till now with his 69 runs from five matches.

Imam ul Haq has emerged as a dependable opener for Zalmi’s in the past few editions. But his performances in the Karachi leg are unsatisfactory for a player like him. While the young gun Haider Ali would be hoping for tables to change for him. With 153 runs in 6 innings at the number 3 spot in PSL 5, the aggressive right-handed batsman would be keen to show his worth at the same spot in the Abu Dhabi leg.

Peshawar Zalmi has got some power-packed overseas lot. The ever-dangerous David Miller will join the yellow army, bringing with him his match-winning skills. With 3 centuries to his name in T20Is, the 31-year old batsman will pose a serious threat to the opposition bowlers.

The young Guyanese cricketer Sherfane Rutherford will be again on the scene. His blazing 36 runs with 4 sixes helped Peshawar to beat Quetta in the Karachi leg.

The West Indies all-rounder Fabien Allen provides balance to the squad. While Fidel Edwards can be fiery with the ball. Moreover, the big-hitter Rowan Powell will provide stability and timely maximums in the middle order. The inclusion of 19-year old Afghan spinner Waqar Salamkheil is a much-needed boost to Zalmi’s spin attack.

The former champions have also got a strong force in the shape of the local lot. Umaid Asif who has taken 29 wickets in 29 PSL games can prove to be a good pacer to bowl in the middle overs.

The young all-rounder Amad Butt and Muhammad Imran Randhawa will be looking to shine in the upcoming matches to catch the chief selector’s eye. On the other hand, the 22-year old mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed can bamboozle the opposition batters on Abu Dhabi tracks.

With Mohammad Irfan and emerging Muhammad Amir Khan, the pace attack has got all the fire. While Swat born Muhammad Imran will be raring to dismantle stumps with his guile and control.

Peshawar Zalmi will miss the services of Ravi Bopara, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mehmood and Tom Kohler- Cadmore.

The former champions biggest weakness is their spin attack and out of form top order. If Peshawar Zalmi wishes to win the PSL for the second time then all departments must perform out of their skins.
