Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistani cricket team, held the virtual press conference arranged by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) today.
He diminishes all the critics saying that when a team plays a red-ball format after a protracted tenure, such things happen that do not allow to change the team combination rapidly.
Babar Azam answers the critics saying ‘team is afraid of losing to Zimbabwe’
“There’s no such thing among management and players. We are a settled team and we play Test matches after a long gap. A few changes can be made but it is not possible to change three to four players,”.
On being asked about the permanent players in the team, he said that such players should be given confidence and the management cannot rotate 3-4 players at once. He says that the PCB is looking to bond a constant line-up ahead of the big series. Notably, Pakistan are scheduled to play versus West Indies in the coming months.
“The players who have cemented their place must be given confidence in every match we play as in the future, tough series are lined-up,”
As he has slid down on ICC Test rankings for the batsmen after a zero in the first and only inning of Pakistan, he says that he is not focused much on ranking and it will eventually rise.
“I don’t focus on ranking that much as If you perform it will rise and if you won’t, it will automatically decline,”
Revealing the 13-man squad for Pak vs Zim 2nd Test, he named himself, Fawad Alam, Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, Abid Ali, Imran Butt, Azhar Ali, Tabish Khan, Sajid Khan, Haris Rauf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Nauman Khan.
However, he did not reveal the playing XI as the team combo will be revealed after examining Harare’s pitch.
We will first analyze the pitch in the morning before finalizing our playing XI.
