Although Pakistan did not play much ODI games this year. Pakistan Played 6 ODIs in 2021, 3 against South Africa and 3 against England. Both were away tours. Babar Azam managed to score 405 runs in ODI cricket in 2021. He is the top run getter for Pakistan this year in ODIs. With an average of 67.50, it is quite evident that Babar had a tremendous year in ODI cricket for Pakistan. He also became just the second Pakistani captain to win an ODI series in South Africa. He also delivered his career-best ODI performance this year in ODIs. He smashed 158 against England in the final ODI.

Babar dethroned Virat Kohli to become the No.1 ODI batsman on 7th April 2021. He is on top of the ODI rankings for almost 8th months now. Pakistan’s next ODI series will be at home against Australia and it would be interesting to see if Babar can continue to dominate the ODI rankings. At the moment, Babar is ahead with 865 rating points while Kohli is following up with 857 rating points.

As far as T20I rankings are concerned, Babar Azam has been on top multiple times. He had a great time in World T20 2021, where he ended the tournament as the leading run scorer of the event. Babar also smashed his first ever T20I century this year against, South Africa. He became the first Pakistani Captain to score a T20I Century. However after the World T20, Babar struggled with the bat in the series against Bangladesh as well as in home series against West Indies.

Babar was not the top ranked T20I batsman at the start of the year. However by October 2021, Babar regained the top spot in the T20I batsmen rankings. By 15th December 2021, Babar lost his top spot to Dawid Malan due to poor performances in the series against Bangladesh and West Indies. However he finally got some runs in the final T20I of the year for Pakistan and regained the top spot by 22 December 2021, as he had the same rating points as of Dawid Malan.

Pakistan have finally got a batsman who is dominating the batting rankings. Babar will head into 2022 with much more expectations from the fans, particularly in Test Cricket. Babar Azam is currently at No.9 in Test Batsmen rankings as he has failed to do anything significant in Test Cricket in 2021.
