Abdullah Shafique Silences Critics After Creating Records on Debut:

After being selected in the Pakistan squad, Abdullah Shafique faced a lot of criticism. Media and fans were angry over the early inclusion of Abdullah Shafique in the Pakistan Test Squad. However ever since Abdullah Shafique made his debut 3 days ago, he has silenced his critics. Not only is he technically solid, but he has shown great slip fielding skill as well. Abdullah Shafique scored twin half centuries in his debut Test. Pakistan are already in a commanding position with just 93 more runs left to win on the final day. Both the Pakistani openers scored 50+ in both innings.

Abdullah Shafique became the fifth Pakistani Batsman to scored twin half centuries in his debut test. He joined the list of; Yasir Hameed, Azhar Mahmood, Umar Akmal and Fakhar Zaman. Abdullah Shafique scored 52 in the first innings while he remained not out on 53 at the end of Day 4 in the 2nd innings. He has faced over 250 balls collectively in both innings of his debut Test Match. Shafique is only the Second Pakistani to score twin half centuries in his debut test in away conditions. Earlier only Umar Akmal had achieved this feat.

Speaking on his remarkable debut performance, Abdullah Shafique expressed satisfaction. ‘I am more concerned on Pakistan’s victory than my individual performance. The goal is to finish the chase as soon as possible tomorrow’, Abdullah Shafique stated at the end of Day 4. He also revealed that the management and his fellow opener Abid Ali gave him the plan to go long and survive at the middle, which he did. Shafique displayed great discipline in his debut Test proving that selecting him early in the squad was indeed a master stroke.
