2 Former Champions Fail to Qualify as World T20 2022 Pre-Qualified Teams Announced:

Former Champions West Indies and Sri Lanka failed to directly qualify for the World T20 2022 in Australia. On Saturday 6th November 2021, ICC announced the eight teams to directly qualify for the World T20 2022. These teams include, Australia, England, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Africa and Afghanistan. While Sri Lanka will once again play the qualifiers, West Indies will also join them. The Caribbean side qualified directly for World T20 2021, but failed to stay in top 8 rankings by the cut off date for World T20 2022.

2 more teams who were part of the Super 12 stage of World T20 2021 will play the qualifiers of World T20 2022. Namibia and Scotland are the sides who’ll feature in the qualifiers along with Sri Lanka and West Indies. There will be 4 more teams in the qualifiers. The 2022 World T20 will also be played in the similar format as World T20 2021. The 2022 edition will be staged in Australia.

Interestingly, Bangladesh failed to win even a single game in Super 12 stage of World T20 2021, yet they qualified for the main round in next edition. On the other hand, West Indies and Namibia had one win each, while Sri Lanka had a couple of wins in the Super 12 stage of World T20 2021 yet they all will play qualifiers in the next edition. The reason behind this was that Bangladesh managed to win a couple of series against New Zealand and Australia at their home and hence their ranking improved and they were at 8th by the cut off date.
